Pan Sonic
Kesto (234.48:4)

Pan Sonic (they were also called Panasonic before legal issues took away the letter A) was two guys (Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen) project from Finland, who started out with long-term, low-frequency, high-decibel experiments and organizing rave parties in the country where “hardly anything happens ever”. The minimalistic music of Pan Sonic is composed “from a forbidding array of pure tones, sinewaves, pulses, electronic squelches and ultrasonic waveforms,” and a humorous attitude, “skilfully arranged into an accessible rhythmic package” mainly taken from the bowels of custom-built sinewave generators.

Slaughterhouse-Five (1972)

Director:George Roy Hill

Kurt Vonnegut's novel became a movie in 1972, and has aired on a variety of PBS stations in the 1980's and 1990's. With the catchphrase "Billie Pilgrim has come unstuck in time", the movie follows Billie Pilgrim (Michael Sacks), who jumps back and forth in time living his life out of sequence and has no control over where he will go next. Throughout the movie we see Billie as a young soldier in World War II where he is captured by German Soldiers, a young man getting married, a father, and as an old man witnessing his own assassination. This begins to make sense for him when he finds himself on the distant planet Tralfamadore and the aliens lay it all out for him. Billie finally realizes that in order for him to survive even to his death, he must concentrate on the good things and ignore the bad in life. The name "Slaughterhouse Five" comes from the German prisoner camp he is held in briefly.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)

Director:Hayao Miyazaki

In the far future, man has destroyed the Earth in the "Seven Days of Fire". Now, there are small pockets of humanity that survive. One pocket is the Valley of Wind where a princess named Nausicaä tries to understand, rather than destroy the Toxic Jungle. Note that the old US release titled Warriors of the Wind is an entirely kiddiefied version which edits the original movie heavily, thus creating an entirely different story.

Four Years In 30 Seconds: A Collection Of Music From Around The World

Everyone wants a bit of care and attention so with this in mind the folks over at Dirter (they release Merzbow records dontcha know) put together a compilation with a genuine concept, a concpilation if you will. The idea was simple - a bunch of 30-50 second tracks from a number of artists they really love spanning four years of musical production, and then once it finishes, the entire album is repeated backwards. Well okay there's a good chance that whoever came up with this was either drunk or stoned, but however the insanity was pieced together I'm very glad it was as a more fractured collection of oddness you're not likely to find. We've got Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, Merzbow, Faust, Nurse With Wound, Beequeen, Illusion of Safety and a whole bunch of other people you've likely not heard

Fallen Art (2004)

Director:Tomek Baginski

Fallen Art (Polish Sztuka spadania) is the name of a 6-minute, animated short film written and directed by Tomasz Bagiński. It features Romanian band Fanfare Ciocarlia's song "Asfalt Tango." The film was produced and created by Platige Image, a VFX company. In 2006 it received the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award

Fallen Art presents the story of General A, a self-proclaimed artist. His art, however, consists of a deranged method of stop motion photography, where the individual frames of the movie are created by photographs made by Dr. Johann Friedrich, depicting the bodies of dead soldiers, pushed down by Sergeant Al from a giant springboard onto a slab of concrete.

the Fatals (10")

The Fatals are the new kings of the garage, even if it’s a very noisy and distorted garage. Who could expect that France (yes France!) would ever boast tens of great garagepunkbands ? Yep France is noisy punkrock ground zero and the Yakisakana-release are the ones to track down. You probably all own one or two Fatals singles, so you know what to expect. This 10” is without any doubt their strongest effort yet. “Threat me bad” takes their songwriting skills to new heights, “Captain cavern” is frantic psychobilly and there’s a great stripped-down Oblivians cover. Les Fatals end up with their best song yet : “Don’t need you”. Most essential release in a long time.

Katedra (2002)

Director:Tomek Baginski

The Cathedral (Polish: Katedra) is the title of a science fiction short story by Jacek Dukaj, winner of the Janusz A. Zajdel Award in 2000; and of a 2002 short animated movie by Tomasz Bagiński, based on the story. The film was nominated in 2002 for the Academy Award for Animated Short Film for the 75th Academy Awards. The movie won the title of Best Animated Short at Siggraph 2002 in San Antonio as well as several other awards.

The movie, made in 3ds max, focuses on a man who visits a mystical, organic building that looks like a medieval cathedral. As he walks through the immense structure, the light from his torch falls upon the pillars, revealing human faces. The viewer later realises that the faces are still alive, as several smile and open their eyes as the man walks past them. The building's nature is partially unveiled at sunrise as the blinding light enchants the visitor and causes organic branch-like structures to burst from his chest. These protrusions then become another set of pillars in the building.

By 1981, only Stapleton was left from the original trio and he now regards 1982’s “Homotopy to Marie”, as being the first proper Nurse With Wound release. There are now over 30 full length NWW titles.

Much of Current 93’s early work was similar to late 1970s and early 1980s industrial music: abrasive tape loops, droning synthesizer noises and Tibet’s distorted, ranting vocals. Later works found Tibet mostly casting off such trappings in favor of a more organic sound, labeled by some as “apocalyptic folk”, occasionally featuring his sinister nursery rhyme-influenced singing and primarily acoustic folk-styled music.

Mihail Bulgakov - Zapisi mladog lekara

Bulgakov wrote these short stories between 1924 and 1927, when he was fast making a name for himself. The stories here are utterly surprising: raw, realistic reworkings of his experiences as a 24 year-old doctor in remote north-west Russia, where he was put in charge of a small hospital and left to get on with it. Isolation is a constant theme in these stories: the distance from civilised society weighs heavily. Alone at night in his study, with only his oil lamp for comfort, he reflects: "The midnight express to Moscow rushes moaning past and does not even stop... The nearest street lamps are 32 miles away in the district town.''

Director: Aleksandr Petrov

The Dream of a Ridiculous Man was Aleksandr Petrov's third film as director, after Marathon and Korova. It's the work of an animator who's well-and-truly become comfortable with his craft; nobody with doubts about his own talents would ever attempt something as ambitious as a Dostoevsky story. A lonely man, having decided that nothing in his life matters to him anymore, rejects a young girl's pleads for help before returning to his apartment to contemplate suicide... Unforgettable dream-like images – the flicker of passing lights through a train window, a dazzling Utopian land beneath the blazing sun, the gleam of flaming dancers – retain their strength even after the film itself has come to an end.
